As part of the AIR Festival at the Aspen Art Museum in Aspen, Colorado, TRAction co-lead Sandra Lamouche performed in Matthew Barney’s vast work TACTICAL parallax in July 2025. The show was the festival headliner and sold out early in the festival. Taking place in a giant repurposed drill hall, the work explores the mythology of violence that lives in the American landscape. Sandra brought her expertise as a hoop dancer to the work and photos of her hoop dancing grace the pages of the rave reviews in The Guardian, Frieze and ARTnews.
This was Sandra’s third time working with Barney. First as part of his 2019 film Redoubt (about the myth-laden mysteries and landscapes of the American West), which premiered at Yale University. The film was translated into a live performance, Catasterism in Three Movements, for presentation at the Shaulager in Switzerland in 2021 during Art Basel, and translated back to film for Catasterism (2021).
