Truth & Reconciliation Calls Read Aloud

TRC Calls Read Aloud – Host Your Own

The TRC Calls Read Aloud Event strives to help communities familiarize themselves with the
Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action. Through an active reading and
amplification of the 94 Calls in public space, the TRC Calls Read Aloud Event summons settlers
into the act of reconciliation. Developed by TRAction, an Indigenous and settler-led climate arts
collective, the TRC Calls Read Aloud Event is designed to occur near – but not on – the National
Day for Truth and Reconciliation (September 30th).

The TRC Calls Read Aloud Event invites individuals to take turns standing at a provided
microphone and reading aloud portions of the TRC’s 94 Calls to Action. Depending on the
duration of the event (a minimum of two hours is recommended, but the Event could be held for
a full day), this allows the amplified Calls to be heard repeatedly, reinforcing the aims and
impact of the Calls. The Event also includes a talking circle where people can engage with the
Calls more personally, discussing individual Calls with neighbours to consider what it might
mean to enact them in the community. Taken as a whole, the Event is designed to alert a
community to the real and important presence of the TRC Calls as responsibilities that
settler/Canadian populations need to address.
