Silent Slow Dance Project

Kevin brings Tender City: The Silent Slow Dance Project to Brazil

While much of the northern hemisphere cools down, things are heating up in the sun-drenched city of Fortaleza, Brazil. Kevin Jesuino recently traveled to the 30°C heat of the Southern Hemisphere to participate in the 30th Annual Performance Studies International (PSi) Conference. Hosted by the University of Ceará, this gathering brings together a global community of performance artists and researchers, this year to explore the intersections of movement, identity, and space under the theme: CRUZO, CRUISING, CROSSROADS.

During the conference, Kevin presented his ongoing work, Tender City: The Silent Slow Dance Project. This project documents the profound act of men slow-dancing silently on street corners, placing intimate and vulnerable gestures within busy public settings to explore themes of masculinity, queer presence, and urban connection.

Having now been activated in Vancouver, Mexico City, and Fortaleza, the project continues to expand its global footprint. Audiences in Canada can look forward to upcoming Spring and Summer 2026 presentations as the project travels to Nanaimo and Kelowna, British Columbia, as well as Lethbridge, Alberta.
