Hoop Dance Workshop

Lamouche Hoop Dance

Combining 30 years as a dancer, almost 20 years as a hoop dancer and 10+ years as an Indigenous educator working with all ages, Sandra integrates these knowledge areas in her experiential Hoop Dance workshops. Using research from her M.A. in Indigenous studies on dance and well-being as well as her training in different aspects of Indigenous knowing, Sandra creates a unique learning experience.

Participants will learn some of the history, teachings and stories that are associated with the hoop dance including land-based teachings and social justice lessons around unity, equality and the hoop of life. Through this interactive storytelling experience, participants will gain an understanding of and appreciation for Indigenous dances and cultures. This workshop will require participants to be physically active while learning the basic steps and foundations of hoop dancing, adjusted for age and ability. This will build appreciation for Indigenous dance by highlighting the skills required to be a hoop dancer.
