VINES is a workshop by Melanie Kloetzel (kloetzel&co.) that focuses on making relations with more-than-human kin. Developing in dialogue with Indigenous concepts of relationality, the VINES workshop helps participants consider what it might mean to identify with plants as kinship species. Using improvisational, state-based and durational embodied approaches, the workshop helps participants understand respectful acknowledgement of and dialogue with plant kin, as well as delve into strategies for translating the movement language of another species into the human body. Through an in-depth investigation into the growth-oriented movement patterns of vining or climbing plants, the VINES workshop helps participants consider how an embodied translational approach can support empathetic connections to non-human species. This offering is structured as a four-hour workshop, with a potential for a performance-based sharing on a second day.
